:howdy:Cub Cadet forum, recently, well last summer, I was given a Cub Cadet Model# 1861with only approx 450 hrs on it (garage kept). It runs well ,however the brakes seem to be sticking, any thoughts on how to remedy this. ALSO, another problem is.. the mower deck was going up and down. This yr I tried it and it stays in lower position and when I try to raise it it makes a noise as if it's trying to lift but dosn't. any ideas or remedy for my dilemmas. How can you tell what size mower deck you have? at what points do you measure from?:thanku: To all who reads and for any feedback received. info seeker

That is a nice tractor you have! Hope you can get some help with those problems. I'm a IH Cub Cadet man, so don't really know much about your 1861.

Nice tractor. My neighbor has one that I get to work on sometimes.

Regarding the brakes, the place to start is to check their adjustment. That will lead to the problem. Could be linkage frozen up.

For the hydro lift, check the fluid level, then the linkages.

For the deck size, you need to move the outer blades so they are both perpendicular to the tractor and measure between the outer tips.
