I need to order this part, on the owners manual I have part key 16, Part # 142876, it is $50 more than # 62877, both are found on several sites. Is there a way to confirm if these are the same part.

Not sure either but some places list both part numbers on the same line item. Sears Parts has a photo of the 62877 you can look at. Maybe you can compare the part you have to the picture.

I checked several sites and most list it something like this AYP-142876
SHAFT BRAKE 62877. Like you said with both numbers but when you search the numbers individually the price is different. I'm on the fence but leaning toward the lower price.
Anyone here know for sure?

Went ahead and placed the order, they looked at both parts and confirmed that they were the same and even pointed me to the lower priced one.
