Looking at picking up some sleeve hitch attachments for my 1250. Hoping to put in a much larger garden. Right now just use it for the snow plow and soon to be finished snow castor. Talking with a friend the topic came up how much area could a tractor my size work up? Anybody know or have reference to how hard you can work a tube or large frame tractor in a day? How big of an area do you guys work?

I worked a garden a little over an acre with mine. Worked fine. Heck, there was even a 6' tiller we had that I didn't bother hooking up.

You do know that there was not a sleeve hitch available for the large frames, right?

To use sleeve hitch attachments on a large frame you will need the 3-pt hitch, and a sleeve hitch adapter for it.

As for how hard can you work it? You will get tired before the tractor will :D :D :D

Ya in aware there's no hitch. I don't even have a three point. But that's on my list of things to build. I often make my own nuts so I'm pretty handy in the fab department. If my blacksmithing was better I'd forge my own plow. I'm not sure why but there's a severe shortage of implements in my neck of the woods. Found these online few hour drive but may be worth it. My buddy helps farm about 1800 acres. He asked how long it would take for me to do the 50 behind his house(purely hypothetical). This is what made sense in my head. Acre is 43560sq/f. The plow is 12" wide. So plowing 1' wide you need to plow 43560' long to do one acre. So that's 8.25 miles. Tractor Max's out at 8mph. Thinking you'd plow at say 4 mph. That's 2 hours to plow an acre. 100 hours to plow 50 acres. Hypothetically make sense?

Ya a tiller would be a great asset. Mrcaptainbob I'm a heavy equipment operator by trade. Doing a hillside terrace is an impressive feat. I'm planning on building a loader for my 1250 sooner or later. Maybe do a little more in house work rather than bringing a backhoe home to pull weeds.

I would go to a 3 point myself, much more useful on a 1250, even more so on an HT. Even a 1250 is getting out of sleeve hitch territory, IMHO.

Go with a 3 pt. You can use sleeve hitch implements on a 3 pt but can't use 3 pt imements on a sleeve hitch

There is a difference in that with the 3-pt you have a lot more adjustability for setting the plow to work properly. Especially from side to side.

You are correct that the 3-pt plows are 12", and the sleeve hitches are 8" and 10".

To be honest I'm thinking that your best combination would be a 3-pt with a sleeve hitch adapter and a 10" sleeve hitch plow.

A 12" plow behind a 1250 would be pretty much right at the tractor's limit.

Not to mention that a sleeve hitch plow will be easier to find and a lot cheaper to buy.

I think the 1250 pulled better than the 318, and the 318 couldn't have cared less about a 10" plow, I ran it the full depth of the plow, trying to turn concrete and junk out of my yard.

I do plan on building a 3 pt for the 1250 no matter what. If nothing else just to pick up my trailer. I would never plan on building a strict sleeve hitch. But as easy as a sleeve hitch to 3pt adapter is to build and the sleeve hitch attachment availability is, just curious if there worth while on the 1250

They are, but you'll want to look for the heavier built sleeve hitch stuff. You won't be able to hurt a plough. Some of the cultivators with the thin 3/4" rods for shanks will fold like a pretzel in tough ground with a 1250 pulling.

I know I have a brinly cultivator that even with the shanks set as short as possible, they start to bend and the shovels start digging to China.
