i have an old ridemaster and was thinking of making her into a puller.. im thinking these were meant to pull so why not! any ideas? this will be my first puller. it would be in a graden tractor modified class under 1,000 pounds..i just think it would be neat to see old iron with what i consider front wheel drive pulling

Welcome to MTF.
I apologize for not answering your email.
I had a bunch of old messages in the in box and thought I would clean them out before I answered any more and I accidentally deleted your message.

................................................................................................

My experience is that they do seem to have a lot of pulling power.
All the weight is right on the tractor wheels and I would think it would be easy to add more weight.
If you lowered the tool bar and hooked the weight sled to it, I think the action of pulling the sled would actually put more down force on the tractor wheels.

The original engines on the Ridemasters were only 4 and 6 horsepower but they had no trouble pulling a 9 inch moldboard plow even thru unbroken ground..

The gearing is very low so it doesn't move very fast.
The original 5.50x16 tractor tires don't have very high lugs on them but you can put Chevy truck rims on them and tractor tires with a lot better grip.

I have no idea how well it would do competing with other types of garden tractors but it sure would be interesting to find out.

thanks for the input, i was going to add a 16hp kohler engine, what chevy wheels would you be referring too? size?year? i dont think spped is important in a pull its traction and i agree all the weight is right where i would want it..i also like how you just drop the engine to engage the tranny! i think it would not just be a neat project but a great puller..

Shipping weight is listed at 870 pounds.
They came with the rear wheels loaded so that weight included the 17 pounds per rear tire.

I don't exactly know what wheels will fit the Ridemasters but I've seen several with regular 15 inch wheels on them.
A friend of mine has a Ridemaster that one of the front wheels was rotted out.
He found a wheel in a junk yard off a 40's Chevy truck and it matched right up.

The bolt pattern on the Ridemaster is 6 lug on a 5" diameter bolt circle.

Top speed on the Ridemaster with the single speed axle is listed at 3 MPH.
