Hello everybody,

I think it is very common for the old Bolens tractors to have sort of a grinding noise while it's driving. If you watch some Bolens videos on YouTube you can hear this grinding noise in almost every video.
I was wondering why these old Bolens have this noise and where it's comming from. I can't figure why a company would make a machine that sounds like this... So is this just normal wear and tear or did it also make this noise when it was brand New?

Tube frame gear drive tractors have straight cut gears and a worm gear final drive. they all seem to have some noise in them but tractors that have had a harder life usually wine a little more then those that were well maintained. Most of them are 40+ years old and need a bearing or 2 replaced in the tranny.

Even in hydrostatics, it depends who has owned it. Some people also try to "power shift" these bolens, but the gears are not sycrinized to do this. This can make noisy transmissions. I would not worry about it at all.
