Well we haven't had any snow thus far this winter except a freak storm in October. At that time I had my hydry plow on the eliminator and it worked well. Right after that storm I wanted to get my snowthrower welded up so I could try that. I had picked up the thrower with bent/missing metal at the scoops and it was just over all in poor condition. It cost me $50.00 for the single stage thrower :fing32:

I dropped it off at a friends house and a week later he told me to come over and get it. He welded it in all the places he deemed necessary, going as far as to weld in a new scoop plate. He's a good friend and I'm grateful for what he did for me.

It sounds like we are going to be getting some snow Wednesday into Thursday and I can't wait to try this thing. I took a couple of pictures of it and the welding job.

I did a video a couple of years ago with the Bolens 1600 single stage in action. I am going to try and get a vid of the 2000 eliminator in the next couple of days if we get the snow they are saying. Thought people might like to see how a single stage snow thrower on a Bolens 2000 eliminator works...I hope I"m not dissipointed :praying:

There is a picture of my 1600 attached as well, didn't want to leave it out:rolleyes: , although it honestly has been neglected since I got the 2000.
I am going to have to sell that one some time soon.:sad_02:

Looks like you're ready for some snow! My 2000 did a great job with the single stage on it. I've never heard of a shear disc failing, however I have seen the key shear on the smaller sprocket when the blower hits something solid.

I had one fail when the jack shaft bearing went out. They were still available thru MTD but very pricey. The same part is used on the XL tractors with the tecumseh engines on the drive shaft from the engine to the hydro. I got a set of two on E Bay. You could also try contacting Rick Show (aka Blackjackjake) for one. He is a member on this fourm.

Thanks guys for the responses.

I was looking at the 1/4 inch steel plate my buddy welded in (that's what I call the scoop...I guess you could call it a paddle :dunno:) along with the rebar reinforced lower chute and was thinking it might be too tough.

I was thinking the old factory plate was only about 1/8'' thick steel.
That would be a little more forgiving if I hit something, bending and absorbing some of the impact.

That's good to know that I may be able to purchase the disk if need be and at best it may only shear a easy/cheap to replace key.
The main thing is that I just don't hit anything. I know I won't in my driveway but I help a few neighbors by doing theirs...you never know what you're going to come across.

Another question I have is what is that metal wire thing (above, 2nd picture) in the chute for? What purpose dose it serve? When I used my Bolens 1600 to snowblow I found that metal wire just got in the way and actually would contribute to clogging the chute in heavy snow. Once I removed that thing the 1600 threw snow way further and seldom clogged.
The reason the one on the B-2000 is still on is because I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I wanted to test my theory and confirm...but I'm still curious of why Bolens put it there in the first place if it was going to lower the products performance??

Very disapointed with the snowthrower on the B-2000 Disgus:

The 2000 kept clogging and didn't even throw snow that far. I even took out the wire thing in the chute. I ended up using my 1600 and that thing didn't clog once and threw the snow real far.

I left one little portion of the driveway to try and get video later.

Have an update, went back out this eavening when it was abot 10 degrees colder and the B-2000 threw the sow and didn't clog every other second. It worked prety good with nice dry snow but it still didn't throw it as far as the 1600.

I've never had much luck with a single stage in wet snow. The difference in performance between the 1600 and 2000 is strange. Do they both have the same size pulleys on the PTO? I recall my 2000 had a bigger pulley on the bottom which would reduce PTO speed. I've never owned a 1600 with PTO so I don't know if it's the same or different.

I don't know why the wire is there. My best guess is that it is there to stop things like rocks from being tossed out of the chute.

Jason,
I'm not sure what size pulley either of them have other then they are stock; whatever Bolens used.

I was looking at the paddle that I had welded in and compaired it to the paddle on the B-1600 and it's wider. I think maybe if I narrowed that up with some fill weld it might help the situation. I don't know, I miss having the hydro plow.

What I wanted to do if this blower worked well was to install it on that B-1700 I have when I get around to rebuilding the twin kohler 18 I have for it and keep the B-2000 with the hyd plow....and sell the 1600.

Did they make a dule stage for my tractor? If so, what should I be looking for or what did it have to come off?
