Bought a Bolens 850 yesterday at an auction to get the engine for another project and noticed it had a high/low which is accomplished by belt drive selection never noticed one of these before. Are they pretty common or not so common?

There were only three models that I know of that used that particular setup. I don't know why really. They are much easier to use than the other belt change setups where you have to move the belt manually from one set of pullies to another.

There were a few that used this setup.

650,750,800,850,853,900, and I think they may have been used in a couple of the G series.

Yes they all had a belt change system, but the 650 and 750 didn't have the lever. You had to stop the engine and move a belt manually. I don't think any of the G series had the lever either.
