Hi Everyone:

I have found recommendations for mounting a blade parallel or perpendicular to connecting rod at top dead center for C & D engines, but have not seen anything regarding the Duraforce engine.

Is anyone aware of any directions from Lawn-Boy on how to position the blade on a Duraforce?

Find something else to worry about as it makes no difference. If LB was worried they would have put keyways in the blade adapter to force you to put it on in the right place. Roger

First, I have no clue as to whether it makes a difference on a Duraforce or not. I tried searching the service manual but came up with nothing. With that being said I will point out that on the D and F series, Lawnboy does address orientation of the blade. I have actually corrected excessive vibration on a couple of different Lawnboys, both D and F series. This after checking and balancing the blade and still having a vibration. I guess it couldn't hurt on a Duraforce to try either parallel or perpendicular but only if you are having a vibration problem after balancing the blade. Good luck! Bill

Bill you are right. It was a remedy for excessive vibration on some mowers off that era. It did help on the ones that did vibrate more then what was expected. I think with the heavier blades its no longer applies. But keep it in mind if you have one that vibrates more then you think it should. See attached bulletin.

I'm also in agreement with you on the older models. I've definitely cured excessive vibration by moving the blade perpendicular to the piston.

I thought I saw an old post pertaining to the blade position on a Duraforce on this forum, but the search function did not reveal anything. Mind you I don't think the search feature on this forum works as well it it once did.

I positioned the blade parallel to connecting rod when piston is at TDC and made a note so I remember this in the spring. If it vibrates I'll change position 90 degrees.

I read somewhere that blade on F engine was set parallel to rod,D perpendicular as mentioned previously.

Yes, you are correct. I always remember it by relating parallel to the two lines in the letter "F".

My memory device is the d in perpendicular and D engine,not in parallel and F.:tango_face_wink:
