Big-O, your set up looks great. I like the way you installed the winch control. Nice job. Love seeing a "newer" Murray set up to work the garden.
Thanks. The only thing I have left to do is get the ribbed tires for the front. I have and extra garden plow for sale also. I got a package deal on CL for a newer plow, disk and box blade so now I have two. Anyone close to Martinsville Va that wants a deal shoot me a PM

When I finally land my GT that is project number one, that winch set up. I like the rope in the block idea too, clever.
Really nice Murray you have there. Looks great and ready to get to work. Very nice bunch of attachments / mods too!
On a old set of scales the blocks weigh 65lb each. I went overboard on the winch mounting plate but it will pull the back of the GT off before it bends. If you like I can do some better pics of the way I made it. I just welded up 3 pieces of 1/4 flat stock. The front lip sits against the face of the hitch with a flat plate to mount the winch on and then angled a piece in the back to match the slope of the tractor. I originally was going to go with 1/8 but I had those scrap pieces from another project so it ended up 1/4. I then turned the winch backwards so it feeds from the top. To do that all you will have to do is change the little plate that keeps the cable from unspoling to the opposite side and drill new mounting holes if you want two bolts on the back side of the winch where the most pressure will be. The control box is a wall switch box like you would put on the inside of a metal building with a solid face plate but it is about 1/16 of a inch to shallow so I took and old mudflap and cut a spacer to set it out from the fender another 1/4in and ground it down on the inside with a dremel. I didn't figure it wood hurt to have it on a rubber mount anyway so it will kill some of the vibration.

Looking good, Big-O. Now you got some other toys to play with. Have fun rippin' up your yard.

BTW, if you use one of these, you'll reduce the amperage draw when you use the winch: http://www.harborfreight.com/4000-lb-capacity-lifting-block-96013.html

Pick up a couple of them, they come in handy.

I will do that in the near future. Do you know if anyone here has tried using a strap to replace the cable, like the guys use on ATV's for plowing snow? I was also thinking of going that route if the cable ever brakes. I just have to figure out how to make a block like that except for a 2in strap. On all the ATV forums they say a strap will not bind up and brake and will last a lot longer than a cable. I was thinking a 5000lb strap like you use on a boat winch would work great.

Also thanks everyone for all your positive feedback but the real thanks is to everyone here. Without your help I could have never gotten this setup like it is in just 6 weeks.

A strap would be better than the cable and you wouldn't need as much, but the cable has more versatility, such as pulling yourself out of some place you shouldn't be, like a ditch or deep mud. lol As for a pulley block for a strap, I've never seen one, just ones for cables.

You cable will break eventually, but, it'll break by the hook or thereabouts. Mine has broken there a few times, but, I just fix it.

I just found this out the other day and from what I've seen, it's universal with all winches, is the Pulling Power Zone of a winch. This would also help with a reduction in amperage draw, tho, you won't have that much cable on the spool. (read that as...DON'T GET STUCK WHERE YOU NEED A LOT OF CABLE TO PULL YOU OUT) :sidelaugh

Nice Murray!:fing32:
Neat machine and attachments. I like the simple idea on the concrete weight blocks.
Plasma rope would be the way to go wouldn't it for the winch ?

I don't have any experience with GT's, but I do have 4WD experience and plasma rop eis the way to go on the 4WD. Stronger than steel, it's floats, if it breaks it doesn't snap back and remove part of your body and it's super easy to wind.

It weathers better than steel cable too and never rusts.

I like your machine and set-up. I also admire the simple rope and qwick-crete on the cinderblocks to make them easier to carry.
Looking good Big-o.......

I never heard of Plasma rope ......new one on me.
Very ingenious! You did a nice job on setting that up for ease of use too!
Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback about the work I did on the GT. I will take credit for the work, but all the great ideas came from wright here on the forum and it is me that should be thinking all the great members here because there is no way I could have gotten this far in the short amount of time I have been working on it without all of you.

I think this is what he is talking about.

We just know it as synthetic winch rope here in the states.

Now there is one sweet looking worker:trink39: I've been looking for some 3-ribs tire in our size. Do you have any source. Miller has a nice tire called v-61 or something close, but no 3- rib. Again super job!
