I have a very small spring fed pond that's always in the shade but algae grows like crazy. I've been using copper sulphate as directed, even more. Water clears up beautifully for a week or two then back like it was.
I've tried Rural King, Tractor Supply no luck finding an aerator. I'm thinking since it's way away from power either solar or windmill to run an aerator.
I need a kit of everything. The ones online I see are expensive. Anyone familiar with a reasonably priced kit (under $600 I'm hoping), which is better solar or wind, will it work for small pond...about 10k gallons.
It will be for horses eventually.

Any chance of just removing the shade? Also might look into reasons for the algae growth other than just treating it. Look for sources of nitrates. Algae flourishes on the stuff.

There are two huge maple trees uphill at start of spring. I wouldn't want to take them out. Nitrates, I'm not sure where that would be coming from. Uphill is just pasture, however, there were cows on it up until a couple years ago.

No, but drinking it for 40 years and I'm still alive! The spring is shown on an 1840 plat.

How long has the pond been there? I was not questioning the spring water as such but the water in the pond. I doubt if the spring to the pond has algae in it as it doesn't like cool running water.
