What is the Best starter for a john Deere 400 Kohler K582?

I bought a starter about 1 1/2 years ago and it is trashed. It was highly recommended as a good unit by a local rebuilder.

I want something that will last like the OEM. I don't have time or any desire to change this thing again in my lifetime.

Thanks

I used a Kohler starter - made in China made me bristle a bit.

The hole on the front of the starter was not tapped. I didn't notice until the starter was 80% installed. I was able to tap the hole without removing the starter.

I believe it was 1/4-20 tpi.

I just purchased a starter from DB electric for my trail gator and it fit perfect and works like a charm, cost was 10% of what jd wanted!

I stayed away from that for fear of Chinese junk like I got the 2nd time. This is the 5 th starter on the 400. The 3rd starter was on the new engine installed in year 2000.

The 4th started was a cheapo and only lasted a year or so.

Too much of a pain to change for that sort of longevity.
I guess if there hard to change it's not worth it,but trail gator starter re+re takes 5 minutes tops!
