We`ve been having some problems lately with the light coming on and going out. I pulled the alt. and took it apart, man was it dirty inside. I cleaned it up and it seemed to be ok for awhile, the brushes were wore bad so I ordered a set and held on to them. The other day the light came back on, so I pulled the alt and changed the brushes, now it stays on all the time. This thing is driving me nuts and any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks

I just tested the alt. I`m getting 28.5 amps and 12.7 volts. At the battery not running 12.5 volts, 12.7 running. I`m thinking a broken wire possibly? Will test continuity after I remove the hood and start tracing wires.

12.7 is pretty low. I am guessing a bad voltage regulator. You should be getting minimum 13.2 volts.

Yeh 12.7 was at idle. I`ve got it running now, I pulled the batterys and cleaned all the connections from the alt back to the batterys and under the dash. Cleaned the grounds and put her back together and now shes running good. Not sure what it was but the light isn`t coming on now so. Thanks for the help.
