So this season has been kind of weak in NH. Other than the 19" of cement we got back in October there has only been 3 storms that had dropped 4" each time.

So of course I want to get some seat time in my JD. Well last night I was taking care of the driveway next to me and I have been moving the snow from the left to the right and ending at the garage. We all know that the blower will leave some sort of pile at the end of each pass. No matter how long you sit there and wait.

So last night at the end of the job I tried back dragging the left over snow with the blower. I was very surprised it worked very well. So I'm thinking about enhancing this feature some how.

So how here is what I'm thinking. A simple cutting edge that is angled so that when you go in reverse it will scrape.

Now comes the part where I think this could be cool feature. I'm thinking about putting the edge on a pivot. So when moving forward the edge will have the ability to float and lift up. When you go in reverse it will be forced down and contact a stop or the back of the blower.

What do you think gang?

Lot's of truck plows have this feature, and seems helpful.

Give it a try and see how it works ! Your either onto something or on something ! As my dad would say when I had an idea
Good Luck

Sippy, That sounds like a great idea! Good luck with it. I like the idea of adding this exta blade without adding overall length to the tractor and snowblower setup. What do you think about the possibility of using this additional edge as an extra cleanup edge when going forward? The blower could move the bulk of the snow, the additional edge could scrape the driveway clean like a giant squeegee. You could also use your tractor/blower like a plow to cleanup after a dusting, when snowblowing won't work.

Power (as in electric) would be independent. Hydrolic is another story.

The attachment catalog says, Uses the tractor hydraulics to lift certain rear mounted sleeve hitch equipment.Says compatible with X500,534,540 multi terrain tractors.. I do not have hydraulics on my X500. Must be a typo for the X500#??

Sippy, it's funny you mention this. Yesterday while going to work, I passed a pick up with a fisher plow that had some type of fabbed back drag blade attached. It was just a flat piece of stock that bolted high to the moldboard on a pivot. Looks like when you drop the blade to go forward, the momentum pushes the backdrag blade under the A-frame ans it just drags in the clean surface. When you reverse, the backdrag blade catches the ground and locks against the cutting edge, making the actual cutting egde rise off the ground. I didn't see it in action, just in passing. Simple idea. GO PATS!

The Power Lift Sleeve Hitch is only available for the Following X500 series the X530,X534 & X540 it Is Not available for the X500 or X520 Models The Power Lift Integral Hitch uses the tractor On Board Hydraulic lift to raise and Lower the Hitch the X500 or X520 do Not have a Hydraulic lifted Rocker shaft Than is Why It can’t Be used on them If You Got Your Info from the Deere web site that is Just a Typo. This Is the Only John Deere Integral Hitch That works on the X500 & X520
Now If You want a Power Lifted sleeve Hitch for Your X500 or X520 Model Your Only choice would Be the Universal Sleeve Hitch Made By Johnny Bucket shown here with the Optional weight Bracket
and Here is Mr. Scheele Link http://www.johnnyproducts.com/J_Bucket_HTMs/UNI_Sleeve_Hitch.htm Hope this Helps You Understand what is actually available for the X500 & X520 Models :thThumbsU

One Other thing I should Point Out to X300 users If You want to Use the Deere Manual Lift Integral Hitch on a X300 series You Can for X300 AWS users You would Have to Buy the Rear Hitch Plate for the X534 For the Rest of the X300 Users You would Have to Buy the Hitch Plate for a X500, X530 or X540 They Only X300 series that cannot Take any of the Hitch Plates I mentioned is the X300R. But You Could Then Mount the Manual lifted Sleeve Hitch On Your X300 series and Use a Rear Blade. I am Unsure for X310 & X360 users If the Power Lifted Integral Hitch Would Work Or Not On those two Models If You switched Out the Back Hitch Plate. But I Know for a fact the Manual lifted Integral Hitch Will work on the X324 if You Buy the X534's Rear Hitch Plate Because I Helped a Friend Mount One on His X324. Because He grades His Gravel drive way every spring with his X324 and After Bad Rain storms But You could Mount the Johnny Bucket Electric Lift sleeve Hitch On a X300 series as well to use a Rear Blade. I would Not recommend using More that the Brinly Rear Blade Or Box Scrape on a X300 series:thThumbsU

Sergeant you nailed it again the dealer said I could use it on my X500. He said the manual lift would lower it..

Here's a clip of a fellow who incorporated a back drag blade with a snow blower.

Cool idea and with that setup you can get a little closer to the building but it seems like it would be a lot of work to build. IMO. I think the reverse cutting edge the lx176mainer posted would be a lot simpler to make and nearly as effective. Sweet idea for another project.

Sippy, I was thinking of something along the lines of this:
I was going to post this idea. This would be the easiest thing to do I think. Also like said above a lot of guys use this idea. It works great unless you have a back blade. When I used to plow I had a plow on the front and a 14 foot back blade on the back. It worked great.

Picked up the steel today from Tractor Supply.

Here is the design.

Cutting two pieces of flat stock steel and attach them to the blower on a 45 degree angle for the pivots. Welded to that will be the back bone of the long 44" mount for the scraping blade. I'm thinking of making a foot or even several feet to stop the blade and mount from flexing. Going to keep them simple and just cut so they contact the back of the blower when scrapping in reverse.

The cutting blade will be mounted just like the stock one on the blower.

Thoughts on this gang?
