Just picked up a used snapper mower for free and the engine cranks if the air filter is off completely (has brand new one) and once it runs for a bit the spark plug is nasty black and gunked up. Is this thing going bad or is it something that can fixed?

Just went through that with my Kubota T1400. It was the 'new' air filter. It was not a genuine Kubota filter, replaced it with the old one, and it cleared up, so I went to my local dealer and purchased a gennie, and no more problems...

That is how I got one of my Snappers. It supposedly needed a new carb and wasn't worth fixing. This is a 1982 machine with a 92908 B&S engine. I cleaned the carb and tank, cleaned the cooling system and it still runs perfectly-doesn't even use oil.
