Well my briggs and stratton needs a rebuild it is a 402707 015501. It is using a bit of oil and is smoking worse now. I wanted to know if it is an iron block or aluminum, can I just check with a magnet. Also what is the stadard bore? I need to check before I order a overhaul kit if it is standard or 10 over. Any help would be helpful.

Looks like this is a cast irpn block to me. Measure the bore or have it done. My have to be machined. these are great engines and have a lot of real honest rated hp. Not like the new junk which is over rated. Good luck

Also, when checking Briggs for manuals, you must properly fill in the model number. Your number as written would not work. You need to enter it this way. 402707-0155-01 do not leave out the dashes.
