Axle Question

991 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  SpiderJohn
I've been trying to disassemble the old 2 speed rear out of the Snapper 1650. How do I remove the wheel flange? Looking at the parts diagram it looks like it is slipped on using a key to keep it from slipping, etc. The nut is off and I tried a gear puller - broke the flange. Any tips will be appreciated.

It is keyed and tapered, the proper puller should take it off. I used a puller that used three of the lug bolts, a jaw type gear puller is probably what you used to break the flange. A little heat can be applied to the hub, not the axle, to help it come off. I had to put a good bit of tension on mine then smack the puller bolt a good lick and it popped right off.
Thanks - I might be hosed the way the flange broke - not sure if I'll be able to get an even pull using a better puller. Hmmmm. Either way, at least I know what I'm up against.

Thanks for the info!
