Is there a difference? Which one should I use in the splines of the PTO before I put the drive shaft on? Thanks.

Depends on the kind of axle and bearing you're talking about. Lot of different greases with multiple applications.

For your purpose a good quality chassis grease such as used for general lubrication will work fine.

Big thing about grease is using it on a regular basis. It's way cheaper than parts.

My manual says use a N0. 2 rating for general purpose grease applications.

Just buy a general all purpose grease; That well be just fine;; DON"T let people lead you estray by telling you that you should use a heat grease;;; If the bearing gets even warm , It is toast; In boat bearings I allways use a water Resistant grease.. Altho when water gets to the bearing . they are also toast/shot/junk, Life is good To clairafy the warm statement; Bearings do sometimes get warm. on wheels. It's from the heat of the tire that is transfered to the hub..
