Hi,
Glad to have found your forum! I`ve read back through posts looking for a similar problem as mine and come close, but my grass continues to grow...

2001(or2) Yard Man T604G Auto Drive. 20hp BS. While mowing, I noticed a loss of momentum so I wheeled her into the pits and started troubleshooting. Found a vibration and sort of a metal/metal whirling sound coming from the drive area. Dropped the mower deck and found the drive belt to be cracked and ready to break so I set out changing it. The varispeed pulley was broken-top fixed plate had come loose so I welded it back on and it`s fine.
Put it all back together and I still have the vibration, which I reckon was what broke the varispeed in the first place. Everything appears good-springs, idlers, etc.
I`m at a loss..Need HELP!
Thanks, Bill

What was the problem?

How did you fix it?
Thanks for responding Gethome.
It turned out to be the flat idler on the upper drive belt system. The bearing was shot. I also found out that both drive belts need to be replaced at the same time, so I changed out the upper belt as well. Runs like a new Buick!
