Does anybody know what the rpm of the auger should be on a # 49 blower hooked up to a 318? Mine runs at 878 rpm is this fast enough?

Going from memory they are rated at 900 RPM. You're within 8% of what was probably a nominal figure.
I'm curious as to how you measured or otherwise determined the actual auger RPMs.

I'm hoping you weren't out there TODAY (in the -30 C weather) measuring your auger RPM! Or if you were, that it didn't take long!

Sasky, let's see a photo of your 318 with cab in snowblowing action.
I used a digital photo tach just pointed it at the auger sprocket and I did it inside my heated garage. The wife said it was to cold to take pics on Sunday when I was blowing snow, but that cab is sure nice. Oh and I forgot to add that
my motor runs at 3290 rpm, I think they should run 3450 at wot. Does that sound right?

Pete
Sasky - yes 3450 is the recommended WOT speed. You'll be amazed how much that little rpm boost makes to your 318. Mine was running 3180 this summer and when I got it up to 3450 it felt like a completely different machine.
