Well this Morning went Up to My dealers and Took a 42inch deck off a X330 and Mounted it On on a X590 which had a 54inch deck on it Originally
Mounts On the X590 Just fine

When the 42inch Is Mounted and Your driving forward there Is about a 2&1/2inch clearance between front tires and Gauge wheels

Wheel turning Left Or right all the way front tires do Not come In contact with the deck or Gauge wheels

When deck is all the way Up there is No interference with the diff/lock pedal arm You have at least 6 inch's of clearance between deck top and Diff/lock Arm

When deck Up or down it Clears the HDAP tires Just fine

These Picture should Should Prove to You Local dealers That the 42inch deck can be Mounted On the X590

Thanks Sergeant the pictures are great and will really help, I hope. It's a little hard to tell from the pics of the rear of the deck so can you describe what you saw regarding deck width in relation to the rear HDAP tire's width? The local dealer said the deck is narrower than the HDAP rear tire width resulting in both frt. & rear tires mashing the grass down to the point the deck would not lift the grass back up to cut it nor giving a full 42" cut when mowing in a circular pattern. The JD web site shows the width for the X580 & X590 to be 41" w/o mower deck and if that's correct a 42" deck extends beyond the rear HDAP tires and also gives about 1/2" beyond either side in cutting width. I may be looking at this all wrong as it's been a long day getting the wife lined up with Ochsner in N.O. to be placed on their liver transplant list and I'm dog tired to think straight. Anyway, thanks a million for the pictures and if they still will not listen when shown I still have a back up plan. :thThumbsU

Yes it does stick Out just Far enough on either side. But You Can always go with Turf Rears if Your concerned about It.

I have a Older 2004 GX335. Which I now Have HDAP style 23x10.50-12 Kenda Terra Trac Garden Tractor Tire tires On it
It also Has a 42inch deck and it still cuts just as well as 24X12 rear Turfs I originally Had on the GX335.

My friend who has a X540 with a 42inch deck as well also Has the HDAP rears. I specifically asked Roeder if they could swap out the Turfs from the X540 My friend was Purchasing with a X530 they Had In stock with HDAP. His 1/2 acre always Looks Good.

But In Your case You'll probably get away with Turfs since You don't Have to do any snow removal in the winter. That was the Only reason we Had the HDAP put On so He didn't Have the chain Up for winter:thThumbsU

This is an update from 2 dealer visits:

Dealer #1 (17 miles away that I've been talking to): Showed and discussed pictures but owner stood his ground and would not attempt it, ordering or otherwise. He did have a couple of units w/42" decks but they had K47 tranny's.

Dealer #2 (Newest but nicest one I've talked to 34 miles away): He said the 42" deck on a X500 was an interesting idea, but no go. He told me he may could order an X580 w/48" deck but he'd probably have to jump thru hoops with JD so give him some time and he'd get back with me; that's been over a couple of weeks now. In the meantime he has a couple of carry overs (X370 w/42" deck & X380 w/48" deck) he said he would deal on.
I checked the JD specs and the X370 has a K57 with an internal replaceable filter but I do not know if the case has to be cracked open to replace it and the X380 w/48" deck has K58 w/internal non replaceable filter.

I've kinda ruled out another Cub Cadet because our local dealer dropped them and only carries Yanmar now. The new Cub dealer I talked to 19 miles away doesn't stock an XT3 and was really "iffy" on ordering a GS w/42" deck; he didn't want to deal either and would also have to tack on shipping costs which he estimated @ $250.00+.

That's where I'm at now on a new mower.

ask second dealer to order In a X590 Less deck and a 42inch deck and You will put it On.

I can understand them Not wanting to do it with the X580 Because it ships from the Factory with a 54inch deck only the X584 and X590 Can be Ordered Less deck

I will respond to the rest of this with a PM:thThumbsU

The X370/K57 has a replaceable paper filter cartridge accessible from the outside (see below).

On the X380/K58 I cannot find an internal filter screen listed in the parts illustrations. I did notice there are magnets at various places inside the transaxle, perhaps these take the place of a filter screen.

On the X570/K72 transmission you can clearly see the internal filter screen.

Thanks jgayman, I did not have any parts illustrations to refer to.

One thing to keep in mind. The paper filters on certain transaxles aren't there to make them better or more serviceable, they typically have filters because they NEED them. You'll notice the only transaxles with the filters are the ones which have ports for power steering or hydraulic deck lift. That is because the exposed cylinder rods are a good place for dirt to get introduced into the system. Whereas a manual steering / manual lift tractor has a transaxle that is a closed system. There is no easy place for dirt to get introduced and any internal debris from wear is caught by the internal filter screen.

Thanks, ok yeah that makes sense. Btw, do you have a link that shows JD parts illustrations like you posted? I would really like to do some research on a couple of models I'm interested in. Thanks again.

I bought my X580 with a 48" deck last year and was told at the time there were no issues ordering the tractor with or without the deck. As a matter of fact the cost was reduced by $300 just because I ordered with a 48" deck. I think your dealer is pulling your chain.

Thanks oldgibsonguy; I understand the X590 & X584 are now the only models that can now be ordered with/without a deck. When I talked to the 2nd dealer again today he told me he tried to build it again with a 48" deck but couldn't much less a 42" deck. Thanks again.
