Word has it the 2011 model year 2000 series will replace the current 2500's and 3K's. What do you think? 2011 is the 50th anniversary for Cub Cadet. Retro look maybe? MTD/Cub sure is tight about not letting any new product pic/spec leakage.

Hi Jmoe

I have not seen anything yet. However, when I was getting my floor pan replaced the dealer said that he was expecting fairly substantial changes. He said that he believed one of the changes would be the elimination of the rear hinged, gas strut hood.

BTW, a technician told me that he is seeing a new issue with the hoods. He says that Cub reduced the strength of the gas struts to help with the hood breakage problem, and now he is seeing complaints about hoods not staying up. This would be another interesting twist in the hood saga.

If they do combine the two series, I hope they do not downgrade the features of the 3000’s. I think they need a tractor that has the capabilities of the current 3000 series, as without it the step between the 2500’s and the CUT’s would be too great. Heck, I wonder if a 4wd 3000 would sell – something close to the current 700 series JD’s. Anyway, I am very interested in seeing what’s coming next.

who knows.... I've said before I'd love to see another SGT, something to take on the JD x700 series. Put a little 20HP yanmar in as an option...

I wonder what the reasoning is in the change of the gas struts? I would be willing to live more with a hood that wouldn't stay open. You can always put a broom stick up front. :)

Yep, they really need to eliminate that front lift hood design. Hopefully what ever they come up with will have some options to it so the somewhat budget conscious can still afford a less optioned model. I'm thinking this is the route they'll go. They didn't sell enough 3K's to make the product line viable long-term. Having 2-3 ranges of 1000 series and then the 2000's is probably a smart business move for them.

Borrowing the pic from a fella from a different forum.. Here it is! 3K series rear fender, looks like a conventional rear-lift hood, fab'd deck, etc..

It may have gotten chopped because of it's origin. I didn't realize that was a rule breaker! (you can right click the pic, choose properties and follow the link.)

I guess times are changing.I can understand that CC has to stop making a true gt if they make no money. But I still hate to see the true Gt go.I hate that CC has to make things cheap to sell. But that is the market now days.I still believe you get what you pay for.
RIP GT's
PS i will be holding on to my 782,1872, and 3235

Not to take anything away from a 3K, but the 2500's have always been classified as garden tractors. This new 2K looks to have the arse-end of a 3K and definately a longer length/wheel base than a 2K. I noticed the floor pan also has extra bump(s) along side the driveshaft tunnel as well.

when you blow up that pic, it's real grainy, but it looks like it's got a 'X' on the end like how the new 1000 series are designated. GTX maybe? That hood is shiny enough I wonder if it's metal? Hard to get that much reflection off of plastic...

I feel my 2544 is more than capable of a GT, true it doesn't have the hydraulics of the 3000 series, but it can pull a 10" plow all day long. I'd like to see some specs. I seriously doubt CC would be dumb enough to get rid of the features of the 3000 series. You may see everything integrated, maybe a locking diff w/o the hydraulics? Maybe everything the 3000 series has down to what the current 2500 offers.

electronic power steering? What is it a Porsche? Everything is electric instead of hydraulic...

So far I really like what I've seen, especially for the price.... EXCEPT for the electric deck lift. On the one hand, you have Craftsman/Dixon having all kinds of problems with there's. On the other, Cub has supposedly been working on this new GT for almost 3 years. On the third hand, MTD isn't known for engineering prowess these days. It's fairly easy to make an argument either way about whether this will hold up, but I personally think it's going to be the new GT's "2500 series hood" issue. On the fourth hand, it sure would be nice for someone to figure out how to make the electric deck lifts reliable, rugged, and immune to debris issues. Maybe Cub can pull it off, or maybe there's a reason JD hasn't done it yet.

cub used to have an electric option waaaay back in the IH days.

For some reason I think my FIL's bad boy has an electric lift too... seems like a few ZTR's have them.

I don't think the electric lift would be too bad, heck, I mow at the highest setting anyway, so it doesn't matter to me. :) I am curious about the electric power steering, I've never heard about that before. It seems like there would be a LOT of wear on the actuator since it would be used constantly.

Electric lift is crap?? Our 1970 John Deere 110 had electric lift. It was just a linear actuator. It was used year round (deck and snowblower) and was never touched in the 30yrs my family owned the machine. You have to consider the costs. Everyone says they want hydraulic, but then you'll balk at the cost of hydraulic driven implements.
