I am contemplating buying a new x740 and would like feedback from anyone that owns one of these with a 60" 7 iron style mower deck.

Is there plenty of room under the tractor to lift the deck to get over curbs and etc? My local dealer has told me of a guy that ordered one like this and doesn't like it as he can't lift the deck high enough for travel purposes.

I'm not impressed with thr 54" or 62" decks, just don't like the guage wheels and rollers compared to the 60" and other reasons. I have several 420 and 455 machines with the venerable 60" decks that I really like, and the 60" 7 iron deck is very similar to them at least in appearance in pics.

I dont own one but I set one up last fall. They're a better deck. The one I set up had the drive over deck. I think the drive over deck is kinda pointless. You still have get off and get back on several time. I'd rather roll it in from the side.

I have a 790 with the 60" gear drive, not the 7 Iron,, No complaints except for removal/installation,, I hate pulling/pushing the deck through the frame sideways,, I would get the drive over deck if at all possible,, yes, you still have to get off and hook up the PTO & brackets but at least you don't have to move the combersome deck through the frame. :banghead3 I can remove the deck in 10 minutes and install it in 20 minutes,, not a big deal.

The deck rides a little low,, However you can adjust the brackets to raise the deck a good 6 to 8 inches off the ground in the raised position,,

Otherwise,, I love the way this deck mows, it cuts sweet-looks great.:trink39:

I have the X720 with the 60" 7-iron deck and LOVE it! The drive over is really easy and simple to use. Takes only a minute to remove and about 5 to attach. Regarding the clearance issue, I just went out and measured and have 5 1/2 inches of clearance on mine when raised. Don't have any curbs to drive over so can't answer your question directly but maybe someone else can.

Good Luck!

I cleaned and greased my 7-iron for the first time today. I was cool driving over the deck, but kind of scary too. But everything worked as advertized. I do have to say that deck is heavy! But it cleans up pretty easy and goes on and off quick and easy.

Guys, thanks for the answers. I haven't seen one of these decks in person, but i am curious about the quality of the cut, especially in bumpy terrain. Any scalping issues?

My old style 60" decks on my 420s do an awesome job of cutting, never any scalping even in bumpy terrain. The 7iron 60" looks very similar to the old decks with the front swivel wheels and all that.

I am really thinking about getting either a 720 or 740 with the 'green deck' in a few weeks :)

I had a X740 with a 7 iron deck which I gave to my son, really liked the deck. I just modified a 7 iron to work on my X750 with quick hitch drive over deck because I really like the swivel front gauge wheels. All the newer have fixed front wheels. I had a post on here with pictures during the modification.
