I was looking around on the 1025R thinking about removing the deck to sharpen the blades and noticed the boots on the drag link and steering cylinder have ALL split open. The tractor only has 77 hours on it and has done little else but mower so there is no reason for them all to be bad. They certainly were not bad at its 50 hour service

not accusing or anything but is there a chance too much grease was pumped into those joints?
Sealed no way to grease which sucks.

I have always used a grease needle to keep non greasable tie rod ends and ball joints greased. My 1986 Ford Tempo still had the original non-greasable parts in great shape due to this at 160,000 miles.

well shoot...sorry no idea then,.
Did you buy it New?... call the dealer and get them to fix it for free. And tell them that you will be calling them back every 77hours if this continues so perhaps they should work with Deere to switch it to nitrile rubber boots, instead of some cheap brittle plastic.

Overgreasing joints in boots will not cause them to crack/split unless you fill the boot and balloon it out until it looks stupid (ie should be noticeable that there is something wrong).... and then if it splits you'd see a ton of grease all over everything - which I assume you didn't see?

The boots are just umbrella type dust shields on non grease-able rod ends.
