And yet another new Front End Loader

I've wanted a loader since the day after I bought my X748SE. I turned 800 hours on it today, after getting the 45 loader yesterday and working about 5 hours today to install the new pressure relief valve and lockout valve and get the loader on and adjusted. I saved about $250 in labor to do it myself.

It's funny, the pressure relief valve took all of 5 minutes to remove the old one and replace it with the new one; however, it took over an hour to remove the seat, fender assembly, fuel tank, and lockout arm, and another 30 minutes to reinstall all that stuff after replacing the valve. I might have done it a bit quicker, but I had 4-1/2 years of accumulated dirt and other gunk that I took the time to clean from the tank and underside of the fenders and top of the tranny. An old shoe brush and a paint brush made it a breeze.

The lockout valve took about ten minutes. The instructions are very clear, but they tell you to disconnect only the hydraulic line where the valve goes. It DOESN'T tell you that you also have to disconnect the line next to it, because it interferes with screwing the valve on the adjacent line.

The hardest thing, oddly enough, was installing the crossbar that the loader rests on (just forward of the footrests). The bolts on the right hand side are all but inaccessible because of the connector block right next to them, and it was dang hard to get a wrench inside the frame on the bolt head while I tightened the nut on the outside, because all the hydraulic lines were in the way.

The rest of the hookup was pretty straightforward. Attach the bucket to the lift arms, then drive the tractor up close, connect the hydraulics, and then position the lift so you could drive the tractor under it and attach/ adjust the front attachment and the main supports. Unfortunately, the SE's brush guard won't fit with the loader in place.

Then, PLAYTIME !! I don't have any rear weight yet, working on that this week, but I went into the garden, pushed some old cornstalks around into a pile, and then dug a bucketful of dirt. A full bucket just barely left the rear wheels on the ground, my fat patootie was all that was holding the back down. I didn't lift it more than a couple of feet, just enough to tilt the bucket and dump it back out. But now I know. I'm going to make something to hang between my 3 pt lift arms that I can hang several hundred pounds of suitcase weights on, and I'll probably end up putting fluid in my rear tires. For the time being, I can hook up my 5' box blade, it weighs about 350 pounds.

Oh keep torturing me lol. That looks so nice. My back feels better just looking at that knowing how much easier work would be around here.
Congrats! Looks great. :fing32:
Congrats Have fun!:greendr:
Nice tractor! Will say sure beats a shovel.

Now I know what mine would look like with Ag's.
Very Nice

Congrats on the 45! You will soon find all kinds of things to do with it. Oh, and the wheelbarrow? Garage sale item! :thThumbsU
Excellent write-up. I intend to follow suit one of these days. :)

CONGRATS on the new 45 loader! :fing32:

Since I got my X series / 45 loader combo, my wife has been stating that I'm "creating projects" just so that I can use it. I just smile and say YUP!

Anyways enjoy your new addition.

You'll love the performance you get with the FEL and AGs all around on the X748. And, it looks purdy darn sweet! ;)
Very nice. You will find uses for it you haven't thought of yet!
Khodges, Congrats on the 45 FEL! That is a real nice addition to your X748SE.

Check out Heavy Hitch and ALZWelding (although it appears Al is taking a sabbatical!)

A full bucket just barely left the rear wheels on the ground...
Just be careful until you get that rear ballast all taken care of! If the rear wheels get light, that means all the weight of the tractor, FEL, and whatever's in the bucket is being supported by the front axle alone. Also, if you're not in mechanical 4WD, you'll lose braking power. Have fun and be safe!:thThumbsU

I have no intention of using the loader without counterweight. I just "experimented" in a level place to see if a full bucket was enough to lift the rear of the tractor.

Great loader, hoping to get a CTC next month, can't find a 45 around here. I know about the shut off valve but I thought that there was a relief valve already on the x7xx. Isn't this the valve that some members "trim" to get more lift capacity?
Congrats! That is one beautiful set up you have!

There is an implement relief valve (IRV) already. But that doesn't protect the motive side of the transmission. So you have to replace the forward free wheeling valve with a Transaxle Hydrostatic Relief Valve (THRV). Rod at CTC might not agree about the necessity, but this is the procedure JD follows when mounting an FEL.
