The Delco Starter/Generators. Anyone know how much amperage they are supposed to produce?

Mine is showing about 12 Amps maximum which I think is plenty. My concern is as tightly sealed as these units are this may be excessive considering the heat buildup involved.

Well, 12 is ballpark then. I'm going by the amp gauge on the dash, haven't hooked a good meter into the circuit to get a definitive measurement. Don't think I'll worry about it since it's close.

Thanks for the response.

If it charges the battery and does not go negative with all the lights on, you are good to go.

IH Cubs have 15amps.
So, you're in the ball park, but it is alittle on the low side.
Have you taken the rear cap off, and checked the brushes? They're probably worn. Changing them is quick, simple, and dirt cheap.
I always pull the <rotor>? out, and spin it in a drill while holding fine emery on the brass contact to clean it up.

I went out and hooked a good ammeter into the circuit. It's putting out 15.4 amps at governed WOT. Must be doing it's thing properly. The ammeter on the dash shows between 12 and 13 near as I can tell.

Thanks for the responses.

OK, I thought you were using an ammeter...the guages aren't that accurate.
You're fine then.
