Got a lt4000 all wheel steer that the u joint to wheel axle has stripped out. I tried to drill it to put a roll pin in it but ,while I was able to drill the u joint, the axle is hardened and my drill bit won't even scratch it. Has anyone tried to weld them together? I'm not willing to put over $200 into these 2 parts. Any advice?

Never had to work on an all-wheel-steer yet but it sounds interesting.
lots of stuff to strip out, this had the rear end shift pin knocked out of place, the rear steering pivot stripped( I did manage to drill this and put in a roll pin), and now this. Other than that, it's a really nice machine.

Carbide drill bit might do the trick....but a hole in a hardened shaft might make it snap easy, and welding one will take the temper out of it,so theres no easy solution really...
If you could have a keyway cut in the yoke and axle that would work better...
