My file shows the model 53088 serial numbers 5326 through 10225 as
as 1970 8hp (gear trans.) Chief 800.
You obviously have identical models. I'm just a bit jealous!
Thanks for the information!
Here is some pictures of the tractors.

I`m confused, his earlier post and the 2nd photo would indicate "1200`s"
I am confused too!
My list shows: 53088 1601 thru 5325 as a 1969 Chief 800
53088 5326 thru 10225 as a 1970 Chief 800
53088 10226 and up as a 1971 Chief 800

Could either be deviations in foreign sales or incorrect numbers.

Yes. 8hp are K181`s

Kohler engine models:
K181 = 8 horse
K241 = 10 horse
K301 = 12 horse

Since the Jacobsen grille shell is the same for the entire line, and that is where the model/serial numbers are located, could it be there was an "advantage" for exporting a 8 horse instead of a 12 horse?

I don't know of another explanation. According to my references, the 53088 clearly indicates a Chief 800 (8hp).
