Hi guys ... first let's say I think I had an excellent idea:drunkie: and I put it into action already..... I took a plastic milk crate and added a piece of plywood to the bottom of it ... cut to fit the crate size and one that fit into the inside and screwed the two pieces together so that one piece of wood was on the bottom of the crate and the top was inside the crate on top of the bottom.... hope this makes sense... I then very simply set the crate ontop of the hitch on back of the tractor and used 1 ratchet strap and tightened it up to the rear of the tractor... across the middle of the milk crate straight to the rear of the steel tractor frame.... this will hold 200 lbs of 25 lb steel work out weights... and was plenty strong to hold me on top of that jumping and trying it out.... the weights are a perfect fit and can be easily taken in and out and all this can be removed or added in under a few minutes.... hope this helps someone else out with some cheap weight ideas for their tractor....it cost me less than $ 10 bucks for the strap I already had the weight .... Happy Tractoring:greendr::thThumbsU

I used leftover Green-treated lumber to build a box. Added the ball to a chunk of oak to pull around my 5x9 trailer. Box is filled with 60-70 lbs of sand. It rests on the hitch, and is bolted thru two holes on the plate above the hitch. I do believe another member here coined it Cat's litter box. :imnotlist

Why not just fill your tires? You'll end up with 2x the weight and you won't have an eyesore hanging off the back.

Because the weight box was made for free, that's why. The last time I checked, the fluids used for weighting tires is not given away.

Eyesore? That's a JD, brother. I could build a Merry-go-Round around that unit and it still wouldn't be an eyesore. :fing32:

Filling the tires is a good additional idea. I filled the tires but a weight box would also be handy when plowing.

IMHO, I think it looks nifty. Anything that functions well is a beautiful thing.

I added weight to my tractor it was SUPER easy... I bought the correct weight bracket off a fellow forum member, then bought all the weights at my friendly Dealership....

I didn't say it was cheap! :)

i use wheel weights for extra weight, but when i really need to, i throw my 80* concrete weight box on my 3pt. thats about an extra set and a half of wheel weights. cheap to make, and very effective

I had a '68 Cub Cadet 124 that someone made some concrete wheel weights that had (4) tubes running through them for bolt holes, and they bolted through the wheels like steel weight do, but these were 8" - 10" thick solid concrete, and they were heavy!

Not sure what I'm going to do with this new girl yet.
