Ac?

The weather man says 100 degrees for Friday & Saturday and Friday is always my day to mow. I do have sunroofs/tops on my mowing tractors and I wrap a damp towel around my neck but AC sure would be nice! Ridiculous I know but it doesn't stop me from wishing.

Real men don't need ac!

Only a cup holder.
Got the cup holder but cool air would sure be nice. Thought about installing a fan under the sunroof but really doubt it'd do much good. Even real men feel it when it's 100 real degrees and the heat index is 104-107!

If I were in a suburb, I would crank the machine at the crack of dawn, and mow WIDE OPEN!!:hide:

You stay cool, and get back at the neighbors for that noisy party they had 3 weeks ago!

:sidelaugh

BUT, in my case, all I do is chase off a few deer!!

:biglaugh:
not a AC but you can get 12V clip on dash fans. google it, lots out there.
What I'll probably start doing is wait till the sun goes down in the evening, I've got lights on both mowing tractors. I mow the neighbors yard for her (widow lady) because she lets me use a 40'x60' barn she has no use for. I got good neighbors and want to keep it that way.

That would be a good use for the 12 volt plug I have added on my tractor!

I hope the towel is dry, otherwise you might have problems in the next years...
if your heat index is only 104-107 when temps are 100 then i want to move there. we will get to around 97 today and the index will be over 105, some areas over 110!

my advice is either mow early in the day or make sure your beverage is nonalcoholic and cold. drink it often, if you feel thirsty you should be hydrating sooner. even on a tractor you can have a heat stroke, so just take it easy and stay hydrated.

BTW, i don't have a shade on mine. i stop when i get in the shade of a tree and cool off for a minute if i get too hot.
How long does it take you to mow? It takes me about an hour to mow and trim. I think I would rather spend money on a window a/c unit and have a nice cool house or room to reteat to...
99 and 110 heat index. not mowing today!!
Get a bagging chute and aim it at your head. Ahhhh, a cool breeze at last!
Is it humid there? If not they make evaporative coolers that run on 12v and mount on golf cart roofs...might be something to think about..
A damp towel around your neck will just get more wet due to humidity at 99% in heat of summer. Better to start with dry so to soak up sweat!
Davidg can attest to this I'll bet.
I was given a leaky cooler to use when plowing with an 1950's 820 JD.

Since the cooler would leak, it would drench my thighs as I drank from it while driving down the 1/2 mile long field.

I soon learned I could stay cooler by pouring water on my thighs.

If I were mowing at over 90 degrees, I would be pouring the cooler, again!!

yep, i gets a little wet in the air around this part the country!
I live on the Gulf coast, humidity is HIGH. I soak the towel in cool water then wring it out before putting it around my neck. It helps and gives me something to wipe sweat with. I was guessing at the heat index numbers, probably it's higher. It takes me 1 hr 15 minutes to 1hr 45 minutes to mow both my neighbors and mine if I use the 60" mower, naturally longer if I use the 48". I think I'm probably feeling the heat a little more each year due to getting older, just not as anxious to work in this heat as I used to be.
