Today, I was working to get the rest of my fence around my property. Well I get to the front and the neighbors (several of them stopped and talked to me, nothing abnormal there as we all talk and for the most part get along really good). Well later on the neighbor in behind my place stops and give me a dozen blackberry muffins (they are delightful). Then another neighbor stops and gives me a blueberry pie (I haven't tryed it yet but my son and daughter-in-law say it is good). I just wondering if this country is going to pot why are we so nice to each other? I sometimes wonder and then someone does something nice to me and I have to say this country is fine. One neighbor at a time. Of course living in a rural area does have the advantages of having neighbors that care for each other.
The funny thing is my wife's reaction to this and it was pure comedy as she really wanted me to finish the fence but I kept getting interrupted by all the neighbors. I counted 18 of my neighbors stopping and wanting to talk to me over the course of 2 and half hours me trying to finish and I couldn't get finished as there was about 8 of them stopped and all talking to each other in front of my place. Just a relaxing Sunday talk. Of course tomorrow I will get finished as most of my neighbors will be at work I do not go to work until around 3 P.M.

Excluding the cookies I get from the gal across the street if that starts happening around here I'll be doing a comprehensive test on the well water! :D

I am fortunate to have some great neighbors. One neighbor has brought us a delicious apple pie that had just came out of the oven. Another neighbor has brought us chocoltaes. My next door neighbor comes over and answers all my questions about plants and flowers around the house.

My neighbor on the other side of me got a flat tire on his John Deere LT. I knew he didnt have an air compressor, so I went over while he was at work, took the wheel off, and found the valve stem was cracked. I stole a valve stem off of my dump cart, aired it up and put it back on the tractor before they got home from work. There was a couple times I got home last Summer and seen he had cut my backyard (about an acre), as it was pretty muddy. I didnt want my shiny new tractor to get all muddy. LOL He also fell off a ladder a couple months ago and had his arm in a sling. I cut his grass, ran the line trimmer, and blew off the driveway, porch, etc. without him knowing I was going to.

Thats what its all about. I have had neighbors before that I would not give a glass of water if they were on fire, but with neighbors like I have now, I would go out of my way to help, as I know they have done it for me.

Theyve also never complained about the music cranked in the garage, tractors running at midnight, detailing cars in the driveway, etc.

I had to call the police on my neighbors last week as the mutants across the street had ganged up on another neighbor, who had asked them (rather forcefully) to not drive 40 mph on our posted 15 mph gravel road. We can't call the police for speeding violations as the roads in our subdivision are private. I sure wish I had nicer neighbors......

My closest neighbor is about a 1/4 mile away. I like it this way and it has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Last week a neighbor who lives about 2 miles down the road who is a cattle farmer brought us by some garden grown corn and tomatoes. Very kind and generous. We keep an eye on each other's property. I wish I could say all of my neighbors are as desirable as him although most are nice folks, more than a few I steer a wide path around.

I see the neighbors north of me about once or twice a year..seen him about a month ago when he dropped off some of my mail that got delivered to him accidentally..their dogs use to come visit quite frequently but they were getting up there in years, I heard both have passed on.

The other neighbors I see when they happen to be out when I drive by..I wave most times but they don't wave back..kind of anti social I guess...hard to believe one is a minister at a community church in the area...

I guess most of the people around here moved out in the sticks to get away from other people and aren't very social...that's fine they probably wouldn't make good conversationalists anyway.

I heard the new people are a couple of really nice guys!!! ROF

The country is fine as are most of the people in it. As a rule, what gets highlighted on the news and other reporting venues is mostly negative with very few positive items reported on.

Actualy the road I live on is a private dead end road a mile and half long. Each property is a minimum of 5 acre acres and we have 31 families living on it with the 32nd home being built, These folks on #32 that are building have been rather anti-social because they are from Seattle but in time I think that they will come around:hide: . Since I am on the road commitee I have more information and folks stop by whenever I am about doing stuff so it was a bit of a traffic jam in front yesterday but I don't really care as long as they are nice. After all it was a warm Sunday and I was going about the fence work in a relaxed attitude, If I finished it was ok and if I did not that was ok also. I got out this morning and tryed to finish but discoveried that I need more fence material so off to the Coop latern this week to get the gates and another 100 feet of fence material.:hatsoff:

I had a really good neighbor to the south of me. always calling me to fix some machine that had broke or quit running, mend his horse when she got sick or hurt. Fellow was from the Detroit area and didn't know a hammer from a cresent wrench.
All was fine till he started letting his son in law hunt his tree less 10 acres. He tresspassed on my place denied it to his father in law cause bad feelings between us. Then threatend to shoot my dogs one night when he was hunting after hours on the fence line. Had the lawyer send the neighbour a letter after that stating he was responceable for the conduct of the persons on his property and if said person was to harm animals legally off their property he could be sued and would loose under Michigan laws.
Finally he sold the place about 5 years latter, called me to come get his D17 Allis said he still felt I was owed some thing for keeping all his equipment running and was sorry his son in law was such an A******. Those new neighbours lived there less than a year. Now the next new neighbour have just moved in and keep to them selves and I like it just fine.
