a couple af ht 20 questions

I have a sunstrand 15 pump from my ht20 that has little go. It will drive on flat ground fine but really slips on take off and forget about going up hills. Are these pumps rebuildable and where are part available. I used the whole rear end and pump from my 1886-5, so Im running good now but I hate to not fix the old one if i can. Another question, does any one have a power assist steering unit for sale or one similer to the one bolens made. Nothing on ebay. I do not want full hydraulic. I want to be able to steer when the tractor is not running. I am very capable of adapting. :fing32:.

I've never rebuilt one of those pumps, but I've heard that a company called BJ Hydraulics does. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in.

I also know a guy near me the rebuilds the Eatons, I'm not sure about the Sunstrands. I can ask him if your stuck.

Power steering ? No place to get them, you just have to keep your eyes on eBay, along with many others looking to buy them. They get up there in price when they do come up.

I've heard of a few guys over the years trying to replicate them, but none have shown up for sale.

sounds like the same symtoms i had with my eaton 12- don`t know just how different they are built- mine mearly needed the rotor shaft bushing replaced- did it myself with the help of a laeth- prety simple fix to try- not alot of expense-let me know if you want details and i can walk you thru it
Thanks, When I work on it. Ill Be back on here looking for your advice
Could be a couple things going on. Did you check the free wheeling valve? It's a T-handled screw on the left side of the pump unit. Just forward of the front of the rear tire. Make sure it's snugged in. I rebuilt the pumps and axles for both HT's many years ago. BJ Hydraulics in Michigan is the place to go. They have everything you need, including help and great attitude. Have you downloaded the book for it?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I tryed the free wheeling valve and I swapped everything on the pump that a wrench would loosen up with my good pump and I get the same symptoms. One of the check valves had come apart inside but I found all of the parts and tried another check valve. Same thing. Doesnt bog the engine, just no go up hill. Acts like a clutch is slipping, but with no clutch.:fing32: Land vehicle Vehicle Motor vehicle Tractor Agricultural machinery

You can find ALL the parts to rebuild the Sunstrand. I rebuilt mine two years ago. My driveshaft went bad and took out the charge pump and input shaft. Ace Hydraulics in NC can get you all of the parts!!

The seat is a TSC special with a boat seat swivel and a Homade stainless adaptor plate. No, I dont have any extra fels, but I am always looking.

The swivel is for the Branty backhoe that goes on the back.
Brian,

That is a seriously beautiful tractor! And backhoe too! Wow. It gives me something to shoot for when I rebuild mine.

Check the filter. I had same symptoms a couple of years ago. The filter was dented and flow was restricted. New filter was the fix.
