955 hydro problem

Hello ,

1st post ... thanks in advance!!

My 1999 955 (700 hrs. ) has an issue which has me stumped .

The footpedals ... both forward and reverse will only depress a tiny amount which limits travel speed to very near zero . About 2 months ago it did this and I was able to resolve it by lengthening the under seat rod that gets depressed when you are 'in' the seat . I can't really be sure that this was the actual problem , but it acted normally until yesterday . This time , no matter how much the rod is depressed or how much I activate the limit switch ... no joy . When I 'watch' the rod from underneath , do it's thing , it seems to work as it should .

As a possible related symptom ... the tractor seems to 'hunt' a bit ... meaning while idleing it has a very slight lunge to it ... ever so slight , but it does exist .

Thanks !!!

Is the brake part way on or the cruise control set?
You should be able to find the technical manual easily enough online.
Looking bat it quickly, it said to check the pedal travel with the engine off

That was my first reaction as well...
I don't think the cruise or brakes are set ... but I will sure check it !! Thank you . Heading to the shop now ... wish me luck .
Nice job on the manual !! Thank you .

Well ... my initial diagnosis proved to be correct , but with a little mystery . When it would not allow me to depress the pedals , I manually pushed down on the rod that the seat depresses , and no progress was made . I pressed it a bunch of times since that was my last cure for the very same issue ... nothing , I could hear the rod doing it's thing , but it made no difference . Today I got under it with a good light and it was very clear that a 'stop' was preventing the pedals from moving . Depressing the rod under the seat took care of it . That is a good thing , but why did it not address the issue the other day ?? Sorta has me believing that I will be at this again at some point .

I have always said that being lucky is better than being good ... but I guess I may not really mean it . I would much rather have found a problem and fixed it , than had the problem just go away on it's own .

What a great little tractor ... bought it new and have very much enjoyed owning it .

I will save the manual for future needs .

Thank you !!

Check out page 504 of that PDF. Explains the seat lockout.
I'd hit all the grease zerks at the spots by the pedals.
Should be in your users manual.
There are a couple springs in there that could need replaced if they aren't making everything return properly.
Glad to hear you were able to fix it.

i had this same problem with my 955, it had me scratching my head for weeks trying to figure out the problem. I found it by accident the parking brake was partway on, try holding down brake pedal while pulling up on parking brake release, hope this works,
