I have a friend that has a 1987 Craftsman two riding mower. He called tonight saying the engine died on him. Seems the crank or rod let go and he has a window in the back of his 12HP Kohler engine. He wants to replace this motor with a B&S 12HP I/C engine. I just wanted to make sure that the engines were compatable. Heres a picture of the carnage. Thanks

EDIT: The engine was a 12HP Techumseh model.

The only problem i would say is he may have to drill new mounting holes plus the muffler wont work. As for the gas lines they may have to be rerouted and or lenghten. But yes it can be done as long as the shaft coming out of the motor is the same size and lenght. The hardest part will be the muffler makeing sure its routed right IMO.
