Hi all, pretty new here. I tried searching for an answer but found nothing. Probably not doing something right because a search of "855" in titles only got me nothing.
Anyway, I'm looking at a local 1991 855 4wd (3200 hrs) with loader and 60" belly mower.
Asking price is $6500. Deal or no deal? Guessing it's a bit high.

How many hours is expected life on the 3cyl Yanmar motor?

What to look for as far as wear issues?

I'm just starting to look now and this is the first bit of research on a CUT.
I want 4wd mower/brush hog, loader would be nice to have. A CUT is not a necessity but some times we gotta spoil ourselves :trink39:

I bought my 855 little over a year ago. It is an 87 model, 4x4, FEL, 5' back blade, turfs, with 750 hours on it. It was a "cabin queen" Only used when people went to there cabin for snow removal and driveway grading.

I added a 60" MMM deck and 59" snow blower. Specific hardware may be hard to find. But in general the tractor is a brute with the power it has, for the FEL and blade work I have done. And is still easily maneuverable around several acres of yard.

I did fill the rear tires with anti freeze and WW fluid. That helped a lot.

If I had more work for it, and needed more dedicated implements, I would want a newer model. And a cab for winter.

But I have everything I need, and it is paid for............ That is a big issue.

Great tractors. High on the price for the hours. If there was a full maintenance history and you could confirm the kind of usage . . . and you could shave the price, it might be worth pursuing, otherwise, I would keep looking.

855s were the Cadillacs of their day...and still draw premium prices...

A price comparison: I've got almost twice that in mine with only 710 hours, I do have a woods loader ,I bought ag tires and rims and it came with a 72"mmm

How long ago did you purchase yours?
The only thing that concerns me with the one I mention above is the hours. 3200 hrs seems a bit high. I'm a mechanical tinkerer. I don't mind pulling a motor or a suspension rebuild. I'd just like to start with something that doesn't need more in parts than the original purchase price.
Is 3200 hrs close to life expectancy on the yanmar motor?
