8350 Capstan drive and neutral adjustment

937 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  knightrider
I am new to the capstan drive lawnboys. Got a whole capstan drive setup from Garagedweller today.

Swapped the parts that I needed.......and I am still having trouble getting the left roller to contact the left wheel. As for adjustment, I have raised, lowered the deck to see if I can get a happy medium, but it still doesnt quite contact it evenly on both sides.

Also, the safety start switch is driving me nuts. The starter is difficult to get to fly out and spin the flywheel up. Basically I am thinking of removing it. The cable moves freely and is not bound up, as for the cable hold I have also tried moving it in/out from the clip. I am not having luck, keep having to manually move the plastic interupt out of the way, pull.......recoil then start over.......

Any hints for a new user? Thanks guys

Here is the drive manual:

Get the drive working and then worry about the lockout switch which is basically a block which turns to block the pinion gear from grabbing the flywheel.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Bob

Looks like I need to take a look at the clutch area on the right side wheel. My axle was broken where the left roller was. So I replaced it with a new to me unit, bushings and rollers....

As for the interlock.....Im probably going to remove it for my use. But will reinstall it if I sell it. I know some will not agree, but I don't care, it's a quick fix
