Hi Guys, my friends' Gravely 816S stopped going backwards and he ended up in the bushes and we had to tow him out. When the lever is pulled back it acts like the clutch is worn out, but it goes forward ok. There is adjustment on the linkage, shortened it up some but no results. All help will be appreciated, he might give me the tractor in trade for an old Craftsman that runs great.

Hi Munderhill, I've been looking at the clutch and on the left side it seems someone worked on it. The hardened pin holding the fork to the clutch was replace with a grade five bolt which has worn out. While checking that out I noticed one of those roller pin/bearings missing, which ride in a galley and ride up a ramp to push the pressure plate in. Called Boston lawnmower and they want 18 bucks for it! I was going to replace all six bearings!! Hope that will fix the problem because they want $200 for the clutch, YIKES!

Had a similar problem with my 24G. Check to make sure the high/low range lever is FULLY engaged in either. Mine was in between, instant fix in my case. Worth a shot.

Hi Guys. Found a clutch on ebay with all the parts I needed. Worked out good and the tractor is running forward and backward. Man that thing flies in high 4. Holy ****, I was leaving rubber all over the place. He says when he croaks the tractor is mine.
