Well... I did a stupid...

I was changing the fuel filter on my 650 and a friend stopped by to chat and I didn't bleed the air out of the fuel bowl. Long story short, after he left, I just went and started it. It ran for about a minute and then died.

I've tried all the bleeding proceedures I know... I pulled the fuel line right before the injector pump and I've good free flowing fuel there, but can seem to get any fuel up to the injectors after trying to crank the motor.

I've pulled both ends of the high pressure lines and no fuel is coming out of the pump.

Is there anything else I need to do to get the injector pump primed? Have I really done something stupid and broke something?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm guessing the fuel shut-off valve is in the OPEN(vertical) position.

Once the filter bowl is full of fuel, loosen the bleed screw at the injection pump inlet. Allow air in the fuel line to purge. When fuel exits the bleed screw, tighten it.

Loosen the fuel supply line at the injectors. Crank engine over (never for long periods of time- which can damage starter) while you have the injector lines at the injectors loose as shown in the picture. Tighten back up as soon as there is just fuel (no air bubbles) coming out of the lines. You will need to do this at each injector.

Michael,

Thanks... I understand the procedure and that's what I've already done...

My problem is, I'm not getting fuel to come out at the injectors...

I'm just curious is there anything else I need to do to get the injector pump primed other than make sure I have fuel going in to it.

Make sure the throttle is pushed forward while cranking. I usually put lever at wide open throttle while trying to bleed. It seems to speed up the process. Once fuel starts spurting from fuel injector lines, pull the throttle back about half way and tighten the lines.

I use to have some issues with starting the older Detroit diesels after changing fuel filters!I would put a rag over the fuel tank filler with an airgun and put a little pressure into the tank, while cranking it over.
just a little maybe for you diesel guys!
