64' Ford 2000 leaky gas valve

My '64 Ford 2000 4 cyl gas engine gas valve located under the gas tank leaks. Its a screw driver slotted multi-turn helical thread shut off valve that seems to be leaking thru the valve "thread", even when its fully screwed in the off position. The original one leaked so I replaced it and now the "new" one is leaking. Its a pain in the butt because the tank won't hold any gas overnight. Has another else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

That's a common problem with the cut off valve from that era. The fix is to R&R the O-ring. Then open the valve only 1-2 turns during use.
9 times out of 10 its not the O ring. Some people have taking them apart and repaired them. IMO it just easier to replace them. They Sell on ebay or catologs or more cash at TSC or dealer. Your choice. BTW they usually come with new O ring.
