As detailed in my other thread, I scored a 4X5 quik-hitch and other goodies yesterday. My quik-hitch has the hydraulic angle kit installed. I noticed that there is a hole where a pin is suppose to go to keep the QH from angling if you don't want it to.

Trouble is, the pin is missing. I have searched, searched, and searched and can not find a part number or any information about this pin. Can anyone help? I added a pic of a hitch (not mine) with the pin installed. I suppose I could find something to go in there, but I prefer to get the correct pin for it.

Thanks! Mach-1

Thank-you Diesel Powered! Every view I looked at on JD Parts showed it without the pin. I will get it ordered.:fing32:

I priced that pin a year ago, and it was over $20.

I'd suggest you save some money and go to a farm supply store and get a tractor hitch pin. I found one with the top pull loop that swivels so it stays down out of the way of the pto shaft.

I'll try to post later the diameter and length.

My hitch pin is 3/4" and 4 1/4" working length (from top washer to snap pin hole), which gives me about 1/4" extra length to make getting the snap pin in.

This one is identical to mine.
Note how the snap pin hole lines up with the handle--helps when installing the snap pin to get it lined up with the hole.

Does the 4X5 have the same front quick hitch as the X7XX with different hoses?:dunno:

After I figured out the pin from JD was $21 bucks, I went up to the local farm store and found a 3/4 x 4 1/4 hitch pin, just like the one you pictured. $3.49. Much easier on the wallet and it will do the job!

The 4X5 hitch works on an x7xx, but it uses the same hooks that the mower deck, so you have to drop the deck to put it in.

JD makes a retro-fit kit to extends the hoses 12" if you want to use a 4X5 hitch on an x7xx. My hitch came with these extendo-hoses on the angle cylinder, but not the lift cylinder. I wonder if the PO swapped x7xx hoses on?

After giving my hitch a good looking over, it may have not been such a good deal after all. Part of the frame is bent, and the hoses for the angle cylinder both need to be replaced. I noticed that the PO did not have the hose guides on his X720. Each hose has a wear spot where it was running on the tire or something. I wished I would have looked it over better, but since it's my first quick-hitch, I didn't know what to look for. Sadly, I do now.....:(

The hitch works great, but I'd like the frame straight and would like to know the hoses aren't going to blow. I'm gonna have a buddy run the frame on his hydraluic press and straighten it. New hoses, paint, cotter pins, and she'll be (almost) as good as new.

Check around for hose repair options.
I'm sure JD sells hoses, but may be sorta spendy.
Check local farm supply stores, repair shops, etc. I've heard a NAPA auto parts store nearby also makes hoses.

Glad to hear you found a hitch pin.

There's people that stretch the hoses and use them without extensions (especially the lift cylinder), but it's not a good idea since it's asking for problems (like the rubbing issues). Are there 90 degree fittings on all 4 ends?

I know they aren't very common on CL, but you could keep an eye out for a different hitch and sell the one you currently have (for little or no money difference).

Yep, all 4 hoses have 90 degree fittings. The hoses for the lift cylinder are in great condition, and do not have extensions on them. They fit fine with no stretching. Someone must have changed them for x7xx hoses.

Checked x7xx hoses for the angling cylinder, and they are about $50.00 per from JD. I will check on getting hoses made to length at NAPA.

Depending on what you find with Napa, you may want to check implement dealers; any implement dealer should be able to make those hoses (including Deere dealers.. make them instead of ordering them pre-made).

Have you had any problems using this substitute pin? Does the blower wobble at all?

I use a large bolt and locking nut for mine. Works fine.

Hose and bent frame issues not withstanding, I believe that angle pin is typically removed from the QH when the angle cylinder is installed. The angle pin has multiple pin holes in the blade frame that allows, and locks the blade in about 5 different angles for manual adjustment. If I remember there is center, full, and half angle in each direction. Without the pin, I have never had any wobble issues when the angle cylinder holds the angle. I've had angle hydro on my last three JD and never had any issues. Before that I had manual angle, and it worked well too, just took getting off the seat, pulling the spring loaded pin, kicking the blade to a different angle, and dropping it back in place.

The pin is still used when running a blower so the hitch doesn't move when the angle hoses are disconnected (bad things happen when the blower drive shaft is subjected to too much angle). :fing32:
