49 Snowblower RPM

What RPM does the blower run with the tractor at WOT? Has anyone experimented with sprockets to speed it up? It seems to me if the blower ran faster you would throw snow farther and pick ground speed as well. For the most part I can go however fast I want with my 317, but every now and then we get a wet one or get dumped on with large amounts of snowfall and it needs all the help it can get.

Yes, there was a thread on here not too long ago that someone went with an inch smaller main sprocket. Also you can add some rubber edges to the paddles on the auger to get a tighter seal, and there was a mod done to "tighten" the auger spread at the paddles so that it just matches the chute opening.

I've read about the paddles to tighten up the clearance. I spent a little time working on mine last storm we had as I caught the cutting edge and ripped it off. I straightened it and put it back on with new bolts. While doing this I checked the clearance and it seemed fairly tight. I'll have to do a search to find that info on the sprockets though, that really interests me.

used my laser tach to measure the auger RPM on my 49 last year.

I believe 900 is the factory RPM.
