Ok so I have a 54" mower deck that is model 18071 ser# 0202075 I just bought and replaced spindle bearings on. Bearings are GTG but gear box leaks gear oil out the bottom. :-( all over my garage floor. :00000060:

I also have a 48" deck that is model 18049 ser# 0400628. I don't think this gear box leaks. Can I swap gear boxes between decks while I am waiting for seales?

They show different part numbers for the gear boxes but the drawings are the same.

On another note it seems to be leaking out the bottom. Maybe the gasket is dried up. I don't see an oil seal listed for the bottom just gaskets. Would soaking in ATF expand the gasket material? Obviously drain and refill with 90w before I use mower.

What says the hive.

Thanks in advance,
Bats

There has got to be a seal at the bottom. It has a pulley attched to a shaft and that shaft has a seal.I can not say with any certainity if the gear units will interchange.

I agree there has to be an oil seal some where on there. The drawing wasn't clear to me but I'm sure ill find it once I tear into it.

I couldn't resist I made a quick pass with the mower deck. Needs to be adjusted a little but not bad.

Then my exhaust pipe fell off. If its not one thing it's another. I blame the "booger" welds of the previous owner. Well now I have an excuse to machine a proper flange and weld it correctly.
