Wouldn't antlers be a little more appropriate ?
Actually the blade, blower or shovel will scrape off the sealer whether you have chains or not.
I'd talk to the neighbor and ask how big of an issue it is to him before deciding what to do.
My drive is blacktop with sealer (whats left of it, after two winters ). I look at it this way- I want it cleaned so I can walk, drive or the kids can play ball on it. Looking pristine doesn't matter.
