Hi guys, I Have a line on a 445 but it had 1200+ hours on it. Is this something to be worried about? I know the Kawi motors are great runners, but was wondering what is the normal lifespan on them.

Thanks

Depends on whether it has a plastic camshaft in it or not. The older engines have the plastic cam, the newer ones have a steel cam. I'm sure someone can give you a serial number break if you need it.

Personally my 445 has 2200 hours on it and still running strong! Good reliable tractors. I would say though if it allready has 1200 hours on it, it probably doesnt have the plastic cam, or has been updated.

Proper matenence and care will make all engines last longer, so if service records are available that's a plus. Also, if the guy seems like he treats his equipment well, I find the tractor has been taken care of well, and be more obligated to buy it.

Just my $.02

I rebuilt one that had 2200 hours on it. The crank and cylinder walls spec'd like new.

1200 hours is nothing!

(home users panic though as most don't put 300 on in 10 years :))

ASSUMING properly maintained!

300 hours without proper maintenence is too much!!!

Also have the 445 with 870 hrs and just had the work done (steel cam) and other stuff replaced. The cam to be replaced can go anywhere from 400 hrs to 2000 hrs. This is an expensive repair/update but cheap considering. Check out
weekendfreedommachines.com for available kit. My dealer (wrench) has one with 3000 hrs and still running like a champ and he says he would never buy a newer model.
Kaw. motor is bullet proof. If your getting a good price, don't wait.
This is a true garden tractor that as said above my post will last.

Just My Thoughts!!!!
