I have a 430 which has a 60 inch deck with a short turning radius, something like 2.2 feet. I was thinking about replacing it with the larger 755 because the 755 had foot hydro controls. After looking at the specs of the 755 the turning radius is 7 feet or so. Is this true and if so those here who have a 755 do you mow with it? The hood and front end of the 430 look about the same, I new the rear end was heavier duty and the tractor was heavier but the wide turning radius could be a problem. I have not seen in person or driven a 755, anybody compared it to a 430. I think they both have the same motor as well.

Thanks for any input or thoughts.

I would have to guess that 7 foot radius is the outside diameter of the turning radius. No way it's the inside. I've run an 855 before and while it was no zero turn, it was way less than 7 ft inside.

BTW - that 430 in your avatar looks great!

I also have an 855 with a 60" MMM deck.
Yes, 7' is about the diameter circle that will be left in a full turn circle mowed in the middle of the yard. Pretty much either direction........

That is OK by me, with the acres I have to cover, this tractor and equipment may be older etc...... BUT it is paid for........... And does a lot of other jobs well also.

If you need ZTR capability, go for it, but be prepared to pay the price.

Good luck

Thanks Erik, I love the 430, just wish it had foot hydro controls, somebody needs to figure out how to convert it. Its hard to move the speed up and down, control front blade and drive at the same time.

The brake method works good but is little rough on the yard!!!LOL

The 755 will give you more options, had a 850 and turning was definitely not it's strength. But on an open 5 acre grass field, who cares.

I hear ya. I wish the same about my 332. Have you considered a 455?

I know a guy that has a 2wd 755. I may have to go over there and try it myself before I can wrap my head around the turning radius being that big. LOL
Please do, and let us know what you find, Erik. I'm pretty 755 curious myself. And they are getting cheaper than the 455s I see for sale.

I think we're using turn radius and uncut circle incorrectly here.

First of all, comparing zero turn to a regular 4 wheel tractor is like comparing apples and oranges.

To my way of thinking, turn radius is the radius of the circle made by the tractor doing a full 360 degree turn. This circle's diameter could never be less than twice the width of the tractor. That would be pretty well impossible to get it that small, even braking the inside wheel.

The uncut circle is the circle of grass left uncut in a 360 degree turn. This will be determined by the tractors turn radius and the deck width.

Does that make any sense?

I'll see what I can do. He has a repair shop, so it will probably depend on how busy he is at the time. Interestingly, he also has a 430 (I will probably buy from him some day :) ). I'll see if I can get a direct comparison.

I really like the way this discussion is going. I have looked at a 455 but after riding on my 430 it seems rather small. I am 6'8" and the 455 is pushing it a little bit. My wife says I look like a gorilla on a go cart!LOL The 755 seemed to be close to my 430 in size, so I would be comfortable and have the foot controls. I mow about 3 acres a week, which is my yard along with the two yards on each side of me. It is not open fields but it is not a small area either.

So far keeping my 430 seems to be the best option.:thanku:

I used to mow with a 755/60" deck and it really wasn't much less maneuverable than the 425/54" that followed or the 2210/62" I now have. :)

never owned a 430, but from using a 318, I hear ya on the hand controls. For mowing three yards in the summer, it sounds like the real problem is no factory cup-holders on the older machines!:trink40:

I am glad JD has a hand control. As a kid I had polio and do not have the strength in my right leg (but am VERY grateful to the Shriners for having a right leg and more) to hold down a foot control for extended periods. So for me it is the perfect compromise. Now if they made left side foot controls instead of right side!
I do know that with about a 3 foot circle around the bottom of the trees for mulch the 420 with a 60" deck makes it so we do not have to "touch up" with the push mower. Looking at my 430 it looks as tho' it would be about the same. Haven't had a mower deck on the 430 yet.
