Hi all.

So this is the deal I've come across. A retired cousin owns this and is looking to sell. Second owner, was only used for heavy snows in Winter time.

John Deere 400
60" Deck
Original Cozy Cab
48" snow blower
48" rear hydraulic blade
54" front hydraulic blade
3 point hitch
extra set of rear wheels/tires with turf tires (has bar tires on rear now)
tire chains
Chain Hoist for lifting cab
Cab Dolly

Everything is near mint condition. always stored inside and maintained.
Guessing under 500 hours, but I need to go see it in person for sure. They were away from it and couldn't get the hours.

I've read that the 400 is an odd duck as far as the attachments go, but it's got all I really need, though a FEL and backhoe would be fun :)

what's a package like that worth?

I figure this is a nice upgrade from my Craftsman PYT9000...

thanks,
M

North of you, that would be over $3,000.
sounds like it has a lot to offer
on the tiller though, is it really a hydro 48"? they made a 42" hydro and a 48" mechanical tiller

Where do you see tiller? I see 48" rear hydraulic blade?

I recently picked up a 400 with Honda repower, 60 deck, snowblower, rear PTO and 35a tiller, rear 60 grader blade, sprayer and set of chains for a song and dance. Hopefully both you and the seller are in agreement as to what a reasonable price for his package is. With the Cozy Cab and accessories, I think $4-5k is reasonable.
John, you make a good point, I don't, that's what I get for glancing at the post, thought the 48" rear blade was the tiller I guess:hide:
The big variable is the Cab. Those things are not cheap and they are not common. If it was without the cab, I would say in the $2500 range. 400 prices seemed to have dropped the past few years as they get close to 40 years in age, in fact all the older stuff seems to be falling in price a bit. However, I see you are in Iowa so that is prime JD GT country so I am sure it will be priced accordingly and have a high degree of interest.

So my guess with everything you have listed it would be near the $3500 range maybe a bit more due to your area. Yes, 400 stuff is for the 400 but the attachments you have listed are not that hard to find. I find it curious you mention a rear hydraulic blade. I have never seen one for a 400 so it would be interesting to see it. Is it just a rear blade possibly? Just remember if the price gets much higher than that you can source an X4, X5 with a deck and possibly a blade or blower for that. That is a tractor that is two generations newer than the 400. I have a 400 and love it but it's hard to discount the fact the iron made in the early 2000's is now past 10 years in age with prices coming down.

To me the Cozy Cab drives up the price of this deal since it is not common and a very nice option to have in that part of the country. You would need to post up some pictures to let the folks on here give a fair assessment.

Took every bit of the bed and trailer to get it all home...

Holy **** that is a package. That is in excellent shape and only 32 years old!
just curious, what did it cost? i had one and traded to jd455.
worth more than that truck and trailer in my opinion.
I had a whole bunch of stuff typed out and lost it.

anyway, the rear blade is a 3 pt buhler farm king 5' std blade. turf tires are original, and have less wear than my PYT tires with 300 or so hours on them. it never spent a night outside until it was on my trailer Saturday night. I at least put a tarp over it :)

yes, prime JD country where this was at. lots of interest, but people only wanted certain items and he wanted them to stay together...

I have a considerable amount more into my truck, but yes, the cargo I hauled is worth more than the haulers...
Makes my 24hp PYT look tiny.

I would love to have that truck
Great package deal. I'm sure it will earn its keep.
Figured out how to get the deck mounted yesterday, and today picked up a pair of wheel weights for $100.
Here's the weights.

got some wheels coming so I can get the Turfs mounted for now... not to big on trying to mow with the fluid filled AGs...
Can you post a couple closer pictures of the stack you have there? That's kinda nifty.

Why not? I used to do it all the time with no issues when I lived in KY. If you have a super soft/muddy yard it could be an issue or if your yard is super nice but then I would not recommend using a 400 for mowing duties for a really nice yard. The only time I left any marks is when I used the tractor after a good hard rain and some of the edges of my yard were very thin on grass. :fing32:
