My 1991 318 seems to be using a lot of oil lately. I am seeming to have to add about 1/2 a quart after every couple of mowings. Is this a rebuild or am I looking at something else? I am using 30 weight Pennzoil. Ideas?

It gets the usual puff of smoke on start up, but nothing major and it only lasts a little bit when you first turn it on.

FWIW, Onan manual recommends 40w above 80 degrees and 50w above 90
Not to say your engine isn`t worn, however it will slow down consumption
I assume it`s hot in Iowa this summer ?

I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts smoking continuously or loses power. I fill mine up every time I mow, may take 3 or 4 ounces depending on how hard it works. I certainly have no intentions of tearing it down over it.

Good to know. I will keep that in mind. It has been hotter than h.....well you know.

I have checked the entire engine and no leaks or excess oil are anywhere on it.

Thanks guys!!!!
