I have a 1987 john deere with front pto issues.
With seat safety activated i can only start the pto by jumping the wires in the connector with the switch on. I can turn the pto on and off just fine with the switch but, as soon as i let off the seat safety the pto stops (normal) but, when, i try to restart the pto by turning the switch off and back on it's like i have to jump start it in the wire connectors again.
Really trying not to go into spending a lot of money being a parts changer, can someone give me an idea of where to go next. All the switches seem to be working just as they should. Thanks mike roeser

I had one with the very same issues, never figured it out, might be the time delay module.

Sounds like you may have a seat safety switch that is starting to fail.

Both of these are my guesses.

The seat switch is a cheap easy fix... The TDC is easy but not cheap. From my experience I have seen a TDC go bad but it does not happen as often as people think. But with the way it is acting see if you can hear any clicks in the tower with the engine off and try to replicate the problem. An 87' is not going to have the brake switch so that takes that out of the equation.

Thanks for the heads up on the clicking sound.. After i went through and made sure all the connections were and are tight and have some deox on them i listened for the clicking sound. The only time i heard it was when i would firs turn the key on. When i would turn the pto on i would not hear it.
I jumped the wires at the connector for the tdm and the pto would come just like it would at the switch and act the same way. I took the module out and was trying to get continuity between the solder points on the module to no avail. So i hooked it back up and when i turned the key on the coil for the ignition would click but, when i turned the pto switch on the coil for that would not unless i would manual close it. So i figure one of the diodes on the board is bad. Thanks mike
