318 47 2-Stage snowblower value?

10455 Views 18 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Rydplrs
It's never to early to be looking for a snowblower.

As with all tractors and attachments I know value depends on location.

What is the average selling price of a 2-stage snowblower for a 318?

I am in the Canadian Prairies, snow builds up here pretty good sometimes. I have a single stage model 49 that is pretty rough and in need of a rebuild.

Somebody might say different, but I'd say average going rate for these is $1300-$1600. I think the lowest I've seen one advertised was $1200, but that thing was fairly used and abused. I paid $1400 for mine 4 years ago, and I'm in MN. Hope the helps you out!!
I sold one in May for $800 in 2 days. the buyer had a 4 hour drive, but I can say they never pop up alone here

He said $1300 CAD right now. If he can't sell the whole package he would be flexible. I offered $700 CAD. It is almost 4 hours away far North.

I have never seen just the blower for sale anywhere around here. Even 4 way blades are scarce. I don't need it, but I want it, lol.

Once you have one, and enough ballast you'll wonder how you survived without it.

I've had a Ariens walk behind 2 stage and know how much snow they can move. My 38" single stage on my JD 165 Hydro with the flapper mod really moved the snow. I can only imagine a 2 stage for the 318 in action.

If the seller will come down on the price I will buy it. At $1300, that is the same as I paid for my 1984 JD 318 with a model 49 SS blower, 42" hydraulic tiller, and 50" deck.

$1300 I would consider full retail. I'm willing to pay that for what I want if needed. You did well on the 318. I paid a lot more then that on a similar combo and still profited nicely.

Pictures from picking up that 47 blower and 92 318. I got seriously sideways with trailer about an hour later. 55Mph road, 2wd truck, 60 degrees in the sun and 1" of snow on a shadowed corner after 10 miles of dry road.

Wow I've never seen a 47" 2-stage on a 31x. That seems like a monster on that tractor! I had a 46" single stage on my 317 and was quite happy with it. Why not rebuild the one you already have?
In my opinion the 47 is too big for the 318. My father in law had one for a 420 and sold it because he felt it was too large for the 420 even. He preferred the 46 single stage and he moved a ton of snow.
the 47 is huge, but with enough ballast you can't beat it.

in my area we get quite a bit of wet snow, and 2-stage blowers are required. people with 46/49/50 blowers usually also have a big walk behind for those storms

The snow I have to move drifts in 2'-3' deep in places. I think a 2-stage would be able to knock it down a lot better than a single stage.

Although now that I picked up a 54" blade, I am running out of room for all the attachments! a 47" 2-stage takes up quite a bit of room.

Time to build a bigger shed/barn/garage. :)

Don't know much about these units other than they are actually better snow throwers, but are much bigger & heavier than a Model 49.

Will a Model 47 mount up \ be operated the same or similar to your 318 like the 49?

If not, try to be sure all the correct parts/pieces come with one or at least are available if needed. Good luck. JDD

54 inch blade won't get you far if you get those 3 ft drifts. I now have a two stage model 47 on my 455 and love it. There was nothing wrong with the model 49 on my 332, just upgraded. The blowers do like LOTS of snow and throw it further. When winter comes I'll send you some of our clean powdered Saskatchewan snow. P.S.- we know prices are higher up here, don't wait till fall , prices will go up.

I plowed 30" with my 44/54 and 600lbs of ballast. it can do it, but I was out of room, so I went to pay too much for a 47 (1800), and found one posted for $1000 3 hours earlier. I was the 3rd caller but nobody planned to see it? really? I left a deposit an hour later and picked it up the next morning due to transaction limits. that was a guick hitch 47. I had the chest freezer which I pictured earlier on a 420, then a 430 before that. they take 3' plow banks and make then disappear. they will do 6' drifts , but don't throw the snow forward, as the snow coming over the top will clog the chute.

I like the chest freezers 2' height over the 18" quick hitch.
in dry snow the original was better because it could take more
in wet snow the quick hitch one throws anything 20' feet, the chest freezer 10'
the quick hitch is lighter but longer, ballast requirements probably are not far apart.
they are both what I call snow erasers. take a 3' cut of 12"-16" of light snow and go as fast as you can without fetching up on anything and watch the snow blow 40'. in my case I have to focus to make sure its not deposited in my neighbors yards and driveways, or on top of my garage. Ill see if I can find a pic. last winter I was at the back right of my neighbors yard about about 15' behind his garage, I was throwing it past his garage, but the wind was catching it,taking it over the corner, all the way the length of it and out in the driveway. I went over and cleaned up after.

The 318 can handle it. It's tough to store tho. It's a big beast for sure.

How well does a 318 steer with a 47" 2-stage hanging off the front end?

I'm not sure what you mean? the power steering is more then sufficient with the blower up or down. other then that how well it steers has more to do with your front tire choice then it does with what front attachment is mounted
