Finally getting close to finishing the 317. I'm waiting on the rebuild kit for the carb so I got the rest of the sheetmetal ready for paint. Finished sandblasting this morning and now everything is in it's first coat of primer. Room Punching bag Furniture

I'm hoping to have the color on everything by the end of the weekend. The rebuild kit should be here Monday and then all that's left is the decals and seat.

The decal kit is pretty pricey so I think I'm going to just make my own. I can make the hood decals no problem, but the others I may have to send out to be printed. As far as the seat goes, the one that came with the tractor isn't in horrible shape but it is cracked. I may just use it for this year and see if I like it or if I want to go to a different style. I know there are alot of options out there, has anyone purchased a seat they really like? I'd like to buy a new seat but I really don't want to break the bank either.

Might look at e-bay or Northern Hydraulics for a seat.

There are a lot of options out there. I was hoping someone would share their experience with a particular seat, if they liked it or not and if it was worth it.
I bought my seat from Northern Tool. Had to re-drill the holes, but it works just fine for $49.

What do you use to print your decals? are they UV resistant?

I won't be printing them, I work in a sign shop and will be cutting them from black & yellow vinyl and layering them. We don't have a printer so I'll see if I can get the decals for the fender deck printed from the supplier we use.

Just don't go to all this effort and then put a black seat on it !

It will definitely be a yellow seat. I missed out on several of them today at an auction. They had 2 auction rings going and when I was busy buying a parts washer they sold 3 brand new JD seats, still had plastic on them, for pennies on a dollar. I'm still amazed at the amount of stuff that came out of that shop & barn.

Looks good. :fing32:

If your seat steel pan is still in good condition, get the recover kit, they are far cheaper than replacing the entire seat. It has a better shape with more padding than the original and I find it quite comfortable.

Dog,
I would put some big fender washers around the bolts under the seat springs to keep them up off the fender deck. Those things will have your paint all chewed up in no time if they are flat on the deck.

I may just do that. Where do you get the recover kit? Right from Deere?

I'm planning on making some plastic ones at work....just haven't had the chance yet.

Yes, ordered it through the dealer. Think it's part number TY15741. Probably around $70
