Got another bargain today. Was supposed to be rainy is all I can think.
It was dead but the owner said it was supposed to run good. I got it bought, then removed the side panel. shorting the big terminals got hard spin. solenoid is sticking. Got it cranking and it runs good with no smoke. I got the 3 point bellcrank & lift bolts. The guy probably threw the rest away, or lost it in his garage along with the rear pto, which hasn't been there a long time, but the switch is on the dash.
I'll have to look up a photo of the newer style 3 point and see whats missing...and where the lift arms pivot.
The steering column has been cut & welded at the dash for some unexplained but probably stupid reason.
Hole was also cut into fan shroud. I think I may have another one. Easy enough to replace whiile I have the engine out. Looke like it needs a front crank seal too.
Ill have to check the crank for play there before I get too much time in it.

Grille is bent as is the frame below it. Been there done that with the recent 318.
Seat is generic but good. Deck is a little rough but not rusty. Did some grass cutting, seems ok.
Has the rare tail lights that haven't fallen out and gotten run over option.
I'm leaning towards a cosmetic restoration if it doesn't have too much mechanicly wrong. I'll decide after I've fooled with it some. Hate to remove & replace the starter, then part it.

Looks better than the one I just bought for 450. Runs good. You mentioned the rear tail lights ? I have the reflector type is there a kit to make then electric ? I got a bonus the OP just had 2 new spindles put in the deck

Played around with it some today. I welded a couple of grade 8 bolts to the drawbar, and reinstalled it with a paitr of unknown lower cat 1 arms I came up with awhile back for $5. They look like they will work with a little tweaking.
They actually will work now but don't have much movement with the geometry as it is, and are really too wide across the back, and the lift points are too far apart.
I COULD just drill them new lift holes farther forward which would be closer together, but the mounting points would bbe too far apart still.
I'm thinking of taking about 4" out of the lower arms in front of the lift points, That would narrow them by around 3" and move the lift points to near verticle with the Deere lift arms, plus they would be about regular deere lenth then.
Oh, the starter works fine with a new wire to the solenoid. That saves a lot of work. This may end up being a good runner to sell whole.
